Cooling circuit optimization for the BMW S58 engine The 3.0L R6 biturbo engine (S58) in BMW M models (G87, G80, G81, G82) uses an indirect intercooler circuit (low-temperature circuit). The charge air is cooled via a separate cooling water circuit. Lowering the cooling water temperature is therefore the critical factor in maintaining engine performance, especially during aggressive driving or performance enhancements. The Wagner Tuning upgrade water cooler solves this bottleneck with a 60% increase in volume, which is primarily achieved by increasing the installation depth (from 30 mm to 48 mm).
The increased coolant volume keeps the entire system temperature at a lower level over a longer period of time essential for the 480 hp to 550 hp models.
