Separating the adjustment for compression and rebound allows the car to be dialled in to exact requirements — a level of precision not available with a single combined adjuster.

Separate Compression and Rebound Adjustment
Compression damping controls how the car transfers weight to its tyres during braking — allowing the front to load progressively for maximum braking grip and enabling trail braking into a corner. Rebound damping controls how the suspension responds as load is released on corner entry, keeping the front end hooked up rather than snapping back and causing understeer. Tuning each independently, without one adjustment affecting the other, is a significant advantage for circuit use — corner exit speed is ultimately determined by how well the front stays loaded through the entry phase, and that comes down to the balance between compression and rebound.
